What are you doing right now? No, not right this moment; rather, right now in this season of your life. I pray you are like me, and are having the time of your life doing what you love. However, sadly, most are not. Most have given up on their dreams and ambition, as they live like the movie Groundhog Day, starring Bill Murray.
Have you ever woke up and asked yourself, “How did I get here? How did this become my life?” Have you ever thought back to when you were young and expected and anticipated greatness at every corner?
I have said and thought all of this at one time or another. I remember being a teen and in my early twenties thinking I would have the perfect fairytale marriage, kids that are always happy and obedient, and a career I love! Then, I remember being in my early thirties with four needy kids and a stressed husband, while living paycheck to paycheck sitting flabbergasted as to how this became my life. Did I really choose this?
In reality, we typically do choose our life. Each day we make a decision, and those decisions create circumstances. To our dismay, we never expected our decisions to create havoc. In the end, we wouldn’t trade the screaming kids, stressed husband, or lack of money…because having those means we choose love and life. However, we can make it better. We can look within ourselves and take our dreams down off the shelf and unbox our ambition.
Today, as I write this article for you, I am doing what I love, but I am not doing what I was born to do. Allow me to explain…I currently teach business to business owners located throughout six countries. This means, my days are spent teaching via video conference platforms. Also, I own a publishing company and have helped create sixty Authors in the past three years. I won’t downplay my success, because, yes, it is exciting. However, I have bigger dreams and other passions. What I really want to do is teach the Bible. Many don’t know this about me, but I went to college for Biblical studies. Someday, I will travel and live a life like Joyce Meyer.
You may be wondering, what I am waiting for? My answer is…my 2nd Act! You see, in life, there is a time and a place for everything. Pushing forty years of age with four children biting my ankles, now is not the time to travel and speak. If you did not read my article from last month, I talked about learning to love your current career, and strongly encourage you to read it after you finish this article. The reason is because you must love where you are in the present to enjoy the ride and prepare for your 2nd Act.
No matter your current age, you have a chance to participate in a 2nd Act. Your 2nd Act is your next big adventure. It is the next chapter of your life. For example, my kids are my 1st Act, which means I must make decisions with their well-being at the forefront. However, once I become an empty nester, my decision making process changes, as I have more options.
Never, and I mean never, think that what you see, feel, do, and have right now is it for you. It does not matter how old you are, you can have a 2nd Act. Think about what is the driving force in your decision making. Then think, when will the driving forces shift to something new. Is your driving force kids, finances, self-doubt, or parents? Understand, these attributes will not always drive your decision making. So, begin today dreaming again under the circumstances of complete and utter freewill. The time is now to prepare for your 2nd Act! So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to get excited!
Good luck on your second act!
Thanks Nate! Come to think of it, I am in my 2nd Act, and preparing for my 3rd. 🙂
I love this!! Thank you for sharing!! Thinking about what is the driving force in my decision making is awesome. It is time for my second act. I love when you write you are so inspiring. I can’t wait to see what you post next.
Awe! Thank you Angelique! Your driving force is of the utmost importance to know. People often ask me why I am not out speaking all over the country anymore. They just don’t understand that my kids are my driving force, and I can just as easily speak online! Thanks for your comments and encouragement!
Cheers to your second act! Can’t wait to see it. Have you read the book War of Art by Steven Pressfield? Just popped into mind. Good luck with all and keep up the good work!
Life is a journey. I have woken up several times in my life, and I have asked myself the question, “How did I get here?” The good news is that we can change our circumstances, and change the picture by changing our thoughts, beliefs, perceptions, decisions, actions and reactions. Thank you for sharing your wisdom Elena Rahrig. I am embracing my 2nd Act!
Good to hear I am not alone with the “How did I get here?” question! You are absolutely right! We must first change all of that!
