I am going to tell you a story about fairies. But not just about any ordinary fairy, rather about an extraordinary fairy. You see, most fairies are born from a baby’s first laugh, but not this fairy. This fairy was special. For she was born from a child’s first tear. She had the ability to truly understand what it meant to love from the depths of her soul. A fairy that knew joy, but also knew sadness to which no other fairy had experienced. Strange you say? Well yes, strange indeed. Do not fret quite yet, allow me to start from the very beginning in order for you to better understand.
Once upon a time in a land without magic, a human world, there was a baby girl named, Josephine. This little girl was no ordinary baby; in fact, most people considered her to be the most beautiful sight one could behold. Blonde hair delicately graced her little head, and her eyelashes looked just like tiny fairy wings.
Her beauty enchanted all; yet it was her big, green eyes that were the most captivating of her features. They were eyes that had seen the world, and understood the depths and mysteries of life. While this was spellbinding, it was also unsettling to most people. Though only a baby, she seemed to have lived a hundred years. “Magical”, people whispered, but dared to not speak it out loud. For by speaking that word openly one could be cursed to a life of solitude, forever known as crazy.
Josephine’s eyes weren’t the only magical thing about her. At only a few days old, she had yet to experience any emotions of sadness or glee. Josephine simply studied the world as it passed her by, not finding a need for such emotions. Her parents greatly fretted over what they considered to be the greatest tragedy yet! They took her to the doctor, yet all failed to come up with any explanation. “Count your blessings. Most parents would give anything to not have their babies cry,” they all said. As time began to pass, her parents did just that.
Josephine was seven years old when her parents brought home a new little bundle. Her mother set it down in a crib and unwrapped it. Josephine stood on her tiptoes in order to see this strange surprise. Shock overtook her, as she realized this small bundle was a baby! “Say hello to your new sister! Her name is Isabelle,” said her mother. Josephine looked down upon her with a great uncertainty, but in that moment baby Isabelle began to cry. The parents quickly rushed to her side, shooing Josephine away. She tried to swallow her hurt as she took to her room. Shutting her bedroom door, Josephine felt overcome by all the emotions this new baby had caused her to feel. Day slowly turned to night without either parent checking in on Josephine. So, she continued to stay in her room, pondering the changes this new baby had brought into her life.
Much later that night, she found herself dozing off to sleep when she heard a cry once more. She held her breath awaiting her parents’ rush toward her little sister. Yet no one came. Isabelle’s pathetic cries seemed to call out to Josephine, as if begging for her to come. Hesitantly, she slipped out of bed and tiptoed to her sister’s nursery. As she approached, Isabelle’s cries became more urgent causing Josephine to race to her side. Since she couldn’t see over the crib, she began to climb inside it. As she laid eyes upon Isabelle, Josephine felt her heart softening. “Shh, shh, little sister. No need to cry any longer. I am here now,” she said as she cupped Isabelle’s face with her hands. “I promise to always be here.” Josephine laid beside Isabelle and held onto her tightly. As the baby’s cries subsided, she knew she would always be there for her little sister no matter the cost. Feeling overwhelmed with a sense of love for Isabelle, Josephine felt something change inside her. She knew this was why she was born, to always protect her little sister. As Josephine watched Isabelle fall asleep, she noticed something fall from her own cheek to the blanket below. Reaching up to her face, her hand met with something wet. Wonder overtook her as she realized love created her first tear.
At that very moment, far away in a magical world, that one tear of love caused a special fairy to be instantly born from the dew drop of a lily. Her name was Elizabeth. She was unlike any other fairy because she was born to protect – and would one day be known throughout the fairy kingdom as the Warrior of the Heart.
